The Good Race Steep Hill Challange 5k

Johannah picked me up this morning bright and early on her way to Eugene. Since she was already headed that way to spend the day with Will she wonderfully agreed to drop me off at my race this morning. After forgetting the directions, my running shoes, and my water bottle among other things we finally got underway. As we entered Eugene Johannah got pulled over by a motorcycle cop that had taken issue with Johannah's 9 day expired tags and then was a bit grumpy she couldn't find a current insurance card. He took his jolly time and he finally let us go with a $340 ticket (it will be ripped up upon Johannah's proof of insurance submitted to the court). With twenty minutes to spare we realized that the mapquest directions weren't even close to correct and we were hopelessly lost! A quick phone call to Will and his Dad got us headed to the other side of Eugene where the Alton Baker Park really is... We arrived with eight minutes to spare; I got my warm up running to the registration tent and then to the bathroom where Johannah pinned my number on as I walked up to the start. It was sweet, Johannah was like my support team and we totally made it, as they were herding runners onto the line. The course was beautiful, on Pre's Trail, around a big pond, through Hazelnut Orchards, up the Steep Hill, which looked like a gentle rolling knoll compared to last weeks mountain and over several wooden bridges spanning various creeks. Johannah was there to cheer me on at the finish and I finished with a three minute PR, though I'm not sure the course is really comparable to Silver Creek Falls.
